Orsett Village High St.

Orsett was the original seat of local government for the area and the site of a palace of the Bishop of London in medieval times. The village lock-up last used as a prison in 1848, and the animal pound still exist.

 

Orsett windmill.

Built in the 18th Century, this was a working windmill up until 1912. It then fell into disrepair until 1981 when it was restored and converted into a private residence . The restoration was completed in 1999 with the installation of the majestic sails. The first turning of the new sails were on 25th September 1999.

North Stifford Village.

North Stifford is a picturesque village north of Grays, this postcard, undated is looking east just at the top of the hill which leads to Ockendon and Aveley to the west.
